Quick history... I was injured at work in March 2013. I've had 2 cervical fusion surgeries. Since my initial injury, I was not only complaining about my neck pain, but also bad pain in my left shoulder/arm area. My first surgeon said the pain in my shoulder & arm was coming from my c4-5 herniated disc. I had X-rays & mri of shoulder & was told everything was fine.
My second surgeon told me the pain I was still having in my shoulder was coming from my neck. Well, 2 years & 2 surgeries later, my shoulder & arm are getting worse. I'm taking 1800mg Gabapentin & 10mg Zohydro & hydrocodone.
I recently got the result of my EMG. The doctor told me I have nerve damage in my elbow but that wouldn't cause my shoulder pain? He also told me they didn't check the nerves in my shoulder?
So now he tells me that the pain is not coming from my neck? And I should go see an orthopedic shoulder doctor?
After 2 years, I am beyond frustrated!

  • Get more than one opinion. You need to follow your Doctor's advice. These Doctors are the ones that can diagnose your situation. You need to go through the process all over again to figure out what is going on. At this stage in the game, anything we say will only be conjecture.

Wishing you all the best. Keep us posted.

Realize that FEAR is our worst enemy. Get up & get out in that stormy weather of the real world & kick fear in the teeth. Stare at it dead in the eyes & walk right through it into the storm; because once you're wet, you won’t fear the rain anymore

I have just made an appointment for April 13th with a new ortho shoulder doctor. I just went through my mri reports. I had one done at the initial injury in 2013 & it says possible tear? The second one, a year later, doesn't mention a tear? I had a couple rounds of therapy in there & an injection before second mri.
I also researched & found a new pain doctor. I don't think the one I have is on the same page as me? He seems to just want to throw medication at me forever? Even though I tell him about the bad side effects I have from them, he's very reluctant to change them. It took my physical therapist to call him & tell him the hand & arm tremors I was having were interfering with my therapy treatment for him to change the meds. This new doctor came recommended to me by several people who are under his care. I have an appointment with him on April 9th.
Thank you for those links. I will check them out.
