New Member who is Very Confused!

Hoping to get some advice or opinions from other sufferers. I injured mysfelf at work 48 hours ago. Felt my lower back go whilst heavy lifting. Struggled through the rest of the day and got very little sleep. I awoke in so much pain I went straight to hospital. A&E Dr diagnoses after physical exam prolapsed disc L5 - S1. Gives me endone as a one off, suppository voltaren and script for panadeine forte and bed rest. Horrific day of pain. Cannot sit, lie down, driving and home duties out of question.

It feels as though the medication is doing nothing and I was barely able to sleep and in excruciating pain all night. I re-attended hospital this morning as I am in extreme pain and losing my mind a little after two nights of no sleep. New A&E doctor looks at records and back briefly and prescribes Valium and endone . He starts talking about facet joints and how it will not show up on CT or X-ray.
On my way out I ask how long I should wait to re-attend if pain does not subside? He says 24 hours but these are difficult to look after and unlike a herniated disc. I thought he read my records!! I advise him that yesterday's doctor diagnosed me with herniated disc. His response was "well hopefully I am right!"

I am so confused now and angry. Does anyone have any advice as to how to follow this up. The lower back pain is just ridiculous and now my abdomen is almost just as sore. Just very confused as to which doctor may be right and needing a little love from those in the know. Your advice is much appreciated.

  • Does your pain stay in your back or radiate down your legs? I see you are in the U.K., which doesn't bode well for an accurate or fast diagnosis, from what I understand. And the meds they give over there are different than ours.

Do they prescribe physical therapy there?? Sometimes a very good physical therapist can determine the source of pain and help you start to recover. Let us know how you get along.
