My surgical history is in my signature. Basically after leading a very physically active life - weights, yoga, Pilates, black belt in karate - my worsening back pain was diagnosed as a herniated L5-6 disc, and things have gone downhill from there. On top of my spinal issues I have been diagnosed with a chronic axonal sensory neuropathy and am awaiting my new neurologist appointment in May.
My current neurologist sent me for a repeat MRI due to worsening back pain. The scans show disc protrusions at C6-7, T11-12 and at L6-S1 there is a focal right foraminal protrusion narrowing the ipsilateral foramen. At L5-6-S1 there is facet arthrosis.
I have severe back pain, particularly lumbar, and extremely painful sciatica, predominantly the right, and numb butt. I walk with a crutch due mainly to my neuropathy but I'm glad as my sciatic pain is relentless. I get muscle twitches and spasms up & down both legs.
Currently I'm taking 100mg Lyrica, 6 x slow release paracetamol and 10mg Loxolate per day. Any more than this and I couldn't work.
Has anyone had experience with surgical intervention for these issues? I've had 9 months weekly post op physio and 12 months Chiro/acupuncture/massage/TENS/traction with no relief. Previous facet joint injections have had no relief once the local anaesthetic wore off.
