I had a spill at work and was left with awful lower back pain and pain that radiates down my left leg (feels like I'm being shocked). Dr first wrote it off as a pulled muscle and sent me on my way. 5 days later im back in his office and he sends me for an MRI after doing a straight leg test. MRI came up showing a L5-S1 disc protrusion which is pressing against my S1 nerve root. I'm not a doctor.. Lol so I started looking up what a disc protrusion was. I had another part of my MRI say I had a mild bulge on my L3-4. So there must have been a difference.. While looking at my MRI. (Again I am not a doctor) where my l5-S1 is there is a black spot that takes up my spinal canal. My mom (whom is a nurse and also had a L5-S1 fusion) immediately said I herniated it. But my MRI says protrusion... Can anyone tell me the difference??
