I have suffered from constant neck and upper back pain for about 15 years. It is getting progressively worse. I think it is due to poor posture (I work in a computer every day) and stress and tension in the muscles. I have tried various treatments including osteopath, physio, acupuncture and laser treatment. Nothing has been very effective for long. I have found yoga quite effective but do not always keep it up. I find the pain has recently increased at the top of my spine (slightly to the left) and my head sometimes feels too heavy to hold up. Although my general movement is not at all impaired, I find I have limited flexibility in my head movements (I can't turn my head far to the left or right), but my quality of life is increasingly suffering. I sometimes just want to sit and rest my head. I am 47 - female - and feel it is a bit too soon to give up!
So my plan is to try Bowen therapy - and report back any improvements (tendons crossed!). I have done a little research and learn that although some people report near-miraculous results, the technique is scientifically unproven. But a friend has strongly recommended it and I am desperate so I plan to give it a go. I am most sceptical and do not expect it to work but am hoping to be proved wrong. I am told that neck pain us the easiest to treat and I should see improvements in 1-3 sessions.
Watch this space. I will report back after my first session in a few days time!
