Has anyone went through a work hardening program? My W/C wants me to go through a work hardening. They also told me that my employer wants me back. I have been told for months they didn't want me back :O this is really causing me a lot of Anxiety and I know if I go back, it will only be for the employer to fire me or make me quit to get me off their W/C. Anyone with suggestions?

  • I was laid off work in 1998 after a DDD diagnosis [my nice employers paid for my MRI scan then sacked me after they got the results!!]...pretty much had a minor nervous breakdown but gradually built myself back up and have been back in work part time since 2005 - this time I have a declared disability and have no intention of giving up work so easily [although I'm off with a flare up at moment]. My employers have been pretty good so far and I do a job that doesn't involve putting my back in too much jeopardy.
I guess we're lucky over here that we have decent welfare benefits although the govt is trying it's best to force people back into work. I was helped out by an employment charity - there was no compulsion and my benefits were guaranteed for a year just in case I f**ked up. I dunno what I'd do if I lived in the States - what with medical insurance minimal welfare and whatnot.
  • I WAS STARTED ON WORK HARDENING EARLY ON AND THE DOCTOR AT THAT TIME WANTED ME BACK TO WORK ASAP. IT WAS RIDICULOUS CAUSE I COULD NOT EVEN FINISH THE PROGRAM AS I WAS IN SO MUCH PAIN. THERE WAS NO WAY I COULD HAVE(STILL CAN'T) GONE BACK TO WORK CAUSE ITS TOO MUCH LIFTING. I FINALLY SWITCHED DOCTORS AND THEN WC STOPPED PAYING FOR MY TREATMENT(LONG STORY). JUST BE CAREFUL THE PROGRAM DOES NOT AGGRAVATE YOUR CONDITION. FIND OUT WHAT WC LAWS ARE IN YOUR STATE.
  • have an attorney? If not it would be a great time to get one.
