Hi I'm new here and I have questions for those of you who have had a cervical fusion. I still have quite a bit of pain.. Especially when leaning against something like a sofa chair etc. I also have my arms going numb while sleeping. Have any of you had these issues? 3 weeks post op acdf c6,7

Welcome to Spine-Health

It would be very helpful if you could provide us with more details. So many times we read about members who have different tests and they all come back negative. The more clues and information you provide, the better chances in finding out what is wrong,

Here are some questions that you should answer:

  • - When did this first start?
    - Was it the result of an accident or trauma?
    - What doctors have you seen? (Orthopedic, Neurosurgeon, Spine Specialist, etc)
    - What Conservative treatments have you had? Which ones?
    - What diagnostic tests have you had? And their results (MRI, CTScan, XRay, EMG, etc)
    - What medications are you currently using? (details, dosage, frequency, etc)
    - Has surgery been discussed as an option? (If so, what kind)
    - Is there any nerve pain/damage associated?
    - What is your doctor’s action plan for treating you?

Providing answers to questions like this will give the member community here a better understanding
of your situation and make it easier to respond.

Please take a look at our forum rules: Forum Rules

Please remember that no one at Spine-Health is a formally trained medical professional.
Everything that is posted here is based on personal experiences and perhaps additional research.
As such, no member is permitted to provide

  • - Analysis or interpretation of any diagnostic test (ie MRI, CTscan, Xray, etc)
    - Medical advice of any kind
    - Recommendations in terms of Medications, Treatments, Exercises, etc

What could be good for someone could spell disaster for another.
You should also consult your doctor to better understand your condition and the do’s and don’t’s.

It is very important that new members (or even seasoned members) provide others with details about their condition(s). It is virtually impossible to help another member when all the details we have are
I’ve had this for years, it hurts, I cant move my shoulder – what could this be, what treatment should I get?

Diagnosing spinal problems can be very difficult. In many ways its like a game of clue. Especially, when the diagnostic tests come back negative – no trouble found! Then its up to the patient and the doctor to start digging deeper. The doctor is like a detective. They need clues to help them move along. So, you as the patient need to provide the doctor with all sorts of clues. That is like it is here. Without having information about a condition, its impossible for anyone here to try to help.

Realize that FEAR is our worst enemy. Get up & get out in that stormy weather of the real world & kick fear in the teeth. Stare at it dead in the eyes & walk right through it into the storm; because once you're wet, you won’t fear the rain anymore
  • I am one week out and dont have any advise but I am sorry you are still having issues!
  • Denise good luck with your surgery Thursday. It will be a piece of cake - the best part is having the best sleep of your life for two hours while you are under! Seriously though, it will go well....I just had it and cant believe I waited 8 years for it...feel better already!
Good luck, will be thinking of you.

  • I am glad you are feeling good, but not everyone has that same fortune. You may be embarking on a Roller Coaster ride, so please be careful before jumping on the band wagon thinking everything is fine, doing things maybe you should wait to do... I wish you all the best and hope things continue to improve for you, but don't let your guard down just yet. You are still not out of the woods. Let healing do it's thing and hope that it continues to only improve. I'm not trying to rain on your parade, I simply want you to be made aware that things can take a turn for the worst, in a NY minute, especially if we aren't smart with what we do and how we do it.

Please take this advice into consideration. I'm glad it is working out for you. Keep us posted

  • Hi, I too am 3 weeks post op....C3-4, C4-5. No numbness, but still some pain. I wish you all the best though!
  • Thanks y'all.

My surgery was cancelled due to a badly abnormal EKG. I have to get cardiac clearance from a Cardiologist. I see one tomorrow. So, my neck issues are back to square one with no end in sight. I am happy that I scheduled this or else I wouldn't have caught any potentially dangerous underlying conditions.
I hope to catch the next surgery dates in May but I need to see what's happening with my heart.

  • I wish you luck!! Hope they get everything squared away. :-)
  • I've had no change in my symptoms. Still radciular pain in arm and hand. Anyone else with stories to relay
concerining when, if, radiculopothy began to abate. It is horrible, absolutely horrible. I'm going to see a neurologist because I want some answers concerning possible permanent nerve damage.
