I had spinal fusion surgery on L5-S1 in December and had to have 2 additional surgeries in January and February to repair spinal leaks caused by the titanium rod used in the fusion. For my last surgery in February I was hospitalized and flat on my back for 6 days. I was hooked up to an external drain to control for my spinal fluid. At the end of February the area around my incision started swelling again. At first the doctor said it was probably just a hematoma but then decided it was probably spinal fluid again. I had an MRI 2 weeks ago and there is a pool of spinal fluid under my skin. This time I'm not having headaches like I had prior to my other surgeries so the doctor tried to drain it last week. As soon as he started draining it I got another one of those unbearable headaches and he had to stop. The doctor is suggesting another surgery to place an internal drain in but I'm not up for a 4th surgery. I'm wondering if the fluid will eventually absorb in my body if I don't do anything about it. Any advice because I'm ready to be over this nightmare!
