I am 9 days post op (micro discectomy) after experiencing calf weakness from a herniated disc at L5-S1 that was compressing my motor nerve for 3 weeks. My calf began feeling stronger after the surgery. No more limping, thank goodness.
Although I am still on a muscle relaxer and pain medication, I find myself having an uncontrollable urge to stretch out my legs in my sleep. It doesn't happen often, just once or twice in the night/early morning. I am just semi-conscious - aware I am doing it, but I cannot really stop myself. It's as though I justify to myself in my sleep that it is ok to do it. Today my calf feels a little weak again, so I am terrified that I could have re-herniated it in my sleep. I don't want to panic just yet and will give it a few days before calling my surgeon.
Does anyone know anything about this? Has any one experienced this uncontrollable urge to stretch in your sleep? What did your doctor say?
Also, for anyone that did re-herniate shortly after surgery where the motor nerve was compressed and then compressed again, what did you do? Can you have surgery again so soon to correct it?
Thanks so much!!
