Herniared disc surgery on teenagers?
When I was 12 I started having bad back pain, and after getting an MRI they told me I had a herniated disc in my lower back(I don't remember exactly where). I had to take a few months off from sports and did physical therapy but the exercises they gave me hurt my back more, and so it never healed. However, since I took so much time off the pain became tolerable so I went back to sports. The past three years, it has hurt but never badly enough to go to the doctor or anything, I've kind of just accepted the pain and ignored it. But, last week it started bothering me more and more. Now, the last couple of days it has been unbearable pain, I can barely bend over at all, and sitting for more than 20 min is very painful. It is located in the same spot, but a little more towards the right side of my back now. I am also now noticing shooting pains in my leg down the front of my thigh and back of my calf once I sit for longer than 30 min. I haven't gone back to the doctor, but I am guessing it is my herniated disc that has gotten worse. I never had sciatica before, but it seems like I do now. Is this possible? I have already done physical therapy for it twice, and it hasn't helped either time. If I go to the doctor, what do you think they would have me do? I have been icing and heating and taking medicine as much as I can the past few days which hasn't helped at all. Please help!! I know there are surgeries available, but am I a candidate for those?
