Need some help

I am posting this to hopefully get some help for my father. One month ago he woke up with pain in his right neck/shoulder area. He went to his chiropractor to get some relief but it was short lived- lasted a few hours. He let it go for a few days hoping the pain would go away but it only got worse. He was in severe pain and went to the emergency room twice that weekend with no relief. Two weeks ago he went and saw a spine specialist who looked at this MRI and did a full evaluation and could only say it was probably a neck sprain. This past week he went back to the specialist because his pain is so severe and is not going away. They ordered a cat scan (still waiting to for insurance to approve) and told my father they will see him again after they get that. In the mean time my father is in so much pain that pain meds, muscle relaxers, and rest don't help. He has tried reiki massage, muscle stimulator, heat, and ice. Nothing has helped and my family is desperate to find him relief. Please help.

Thank you

  • He also has full mobility and no pain or tenderness when touching the area
  • time to stand up and either say to his dr or perhaps a new one; Someone, please help my dad. I could see my self saying that if I were watching my dad in pain. you poor thing, you must feel helpless and lost. but you still have your voice. there is no one who would blame you for verbalizing that. how does your dad feel about th is? What does he think? Good luck to you dolly and keep us updatedkathy
  • I know its hard watching your dad go thru this. He definitely needs you to be his advocate right now. If he isn't getting the care he needs, he may have to find a new doctor. I was in your dad's situation with the pain about 4 yrs. ago. I would have several flare ups with no doctor working on my side until last year when I went to see a chiropractor. I wasn't too keen on seeing a chiropractor but I was running out of options seeing that the episodes of extreme pain got more and more frequent. When the chiropractor was not able to help me, it was him who ordered the MRI, not my PCP. I ended up having surgery because a disc in my neck was herniated and pressing against my spinal cord. My options were pretty limited and ended up having surgery and now the possibility of permanent nerve damage. I'm not saying that he is in need of surgery. But if he doesn't get the help he needs to figure out the problem, things could get worse. Help him stand up for himself and if the doctor doesn't help him, fire the doctor. I should have fired mine a long time ago. It wasn't until after my surgery that I fired my PCP. No I have a doctor that really cares about her patients. She would have helped me a long time before this got so bad.
