Pain in arms, legs, shoulders, back and hands

Hi my name is Tom. I have been diagnosed with Gerd, Sleep Apnea, Hypertension, Fibromyalgia, IBS, Anxiety and Depression. I also have a bulging Disc L4-L5. Recently I have been having a lot of pain in my legs, arms, hands, ankles, back, shoulders , and neck. Also I get a few bad headaches a day. When I walk it feels like my legs are made of led and like my ankles are being crushed. And my arms feel like led also. When I walk or drive I get a crushing pain in the middle of my chest in my breast bone. I recently moved from New York to North Carolina and I plan on going to a hospital here on Friday because I am very scared. It seems to get worse each day now. Before I moved my Pain management Doctor told me to see a neurologist and my primary Doc actually refered me to a neurology doctor. They both said I need a muscle biopsy. I'm hoping when I go to the hospital they have a neurologist or they send me to one and as soon as possible. I have muscle spasms all over my body daily. And it was difficult to write this. It took a long time. Please comment if you have any idea what is going on with me. Thank You For Your Time. Sincerely Tom

P.S. I have had Fibromyalgia pain for over 2 years now. This doesn't feel like pain from Fibromyalgia. I can barely hold my head up my neck hurts so bad. But yet on the MRI it looks like my neck is fine.

Pease help.....

  • Hi tom
I would be interested in what the leg pains are like? I am being looked at for Ms because of other issues but have leg pains that they say are not compatible with it
    My partner suggested fibromyalgia
I get crampy pains in legs and sharp pains, then when I walk my legs stiffen and tighten up almost like the muscles are lead
  • These things can be so complicated! No-one can even start to diagnose anyone from information on a forum. Tom, it sounds like your old pain management doctor was trying to get you on the right road. I'd push to see specialists as soon as possible to get the right diagnosis & treatment.
I had all over body nerve & muscle issues for over 2 years. It was completely debilitating. I too was diagnosed with fibromyalgia (amongst a whole host of nerve conditions!) & given my experience I advise not taking it as the final diagnosis without a few more opinions. I was told that I had EVERY 'pressure point' for the old diagnosis of fibromyalgia. I had terrible muscle spasms, fatigue, feeling of heavy limbs, heat/cold intolerance etc...all the 'stuff' they look for but mine never came & went. It just went from bad to worse. My vital signs went sky high with my pain. I also had a host of other 'weird' symptoms including blood work changes...increased platelets, white cell count, hormonal changes etc. I get very sweaty, white & nauscious with pain still.
After being extensively tested with no clear diagnosis I'm now convinced that everything was my reaction to unmanaged pain. The underlying cause (lumbar spine damage) was causing so much pain & physical stress that my body was basically going crazy! Since I've had a far better handle on my pain all of these 'side-effects' have gone away. I'm still in a lot of pain but my 'blend' of treatments, procedures, medications, therapy, natural remedies etc. keep it at a steady 'livable' level. I have many restrictions & still get pain flares which can start it all up again but (mostly) I'm just dealing with predictable pain, nerves & spasms you'd expect from the structural damage I have.

I know others who have spent years pushing for an answer to similar symptoms & nerve conditions have been found & they're now being treated. They too were given the fibromyalgia diagnosis for years. If they hadn't pushed their symptoms would still be getting worse with no real explanation as to why!
The most important thing, in my opinion, is to get extensive diagnostics & a clear diagnosis. Finding the right specialists is vitally important. PLEASE don't stop looking for underlying structural damage. I accepted fibromyalgia & now have permanent nerve damage! If I'd concentrated on finding the cause I might be in a very different boat now.
You have very clear symptoms. Don't stop pushing & asking questions until you're completely satisfied with the answers.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help. As I said, it's impossible to diagnose someone from information given on a forum.
    Osteoarthritis & DDD.
  • I will not stop until more tests are done. I moved to another state recently with a top hospital just to get more help. No way is this just Fibromyalgia. I had Fibromyalgia pain for 2 years. This is muscle break down occurring and nerve damage. I can barely walk at times. My arms and legs feel like led. I refuse to go on like this without answers. Every step feels like it could be my last. How am I supposed to live life like this? No way! I'm on over 20+ pills a day that do nothing. I want off the meds and real treatment.

Krisp my leg pains are like dragging weights around or led. My arms are like this as well. I have done three months of physical therapy. I started with "Aqua therapy" and then did land therapy. And all it did was cause more pain. I was told with Fibromyalgia you have to do your best to work out. Well I have done that and all I have gotten is more pain.

Today is Friday and this afternoon I am going to the hospital to start my journey for answers to what is really wrong with me.

The hospital in the state I use to live in always went the "Heart attack route" and I've had plenty of stress tests and even an Angiogram and my heart is just fine.

I did have a HIGH CK level at one visit in the thousands. They kept asking me if I had fallen or injured a muscle. I kept saying no. A high CK level means either your skeletal system, brain or heart is being attacked. They kept me for a few days and pumped me full of fluids so I would pee like every 20 minutes to check my kidneys. They were shocked I didn't have any kidney damage. Still no idea why my Ck level was in the thousands. But I got a good idea that the pain I'm having now is related.

I'm tired of taking trips in the ambulance with high heart rate, high blood pressure, and their not sure why..... Besides some pain... I can't tell you how many baby Tylenol Iv'e had to chew and how many Nitro's I've had to put under my tongue....
