I underwent spinal fusion of L4 / L5 and compression 10 weeks ago.
The pain has been horrendous. I kept ringing the hospital nurses from week 1 to 6 to describe my symptoms which included pure agony at night time, high temperature, shivers, hot and cold, pain during urination....I could go on and I kept getting told it was normal. I hardly slept...was regularly up from 2am or 3 am.
Anyway, at week 6 I had my follow up appointment with the consultant and described my symptoms and took one look at me and sent me for blood tests...I had lost over a stone in weight during this time as I never had any appetite.
The results showed that I have an infection and for the last four weeks I have been on two lots of antibiotics (Clindamycin and Rifampicin). They immediately gave me a boost and seem to have my infection under control. I had an MRI which confirmed the infection around my metalwork. My blood tests are now almost back to normal so I am hopeful that it's sorted.
My issue is the pain. I seem to be going backwards. Getting out of bed is the worst pain....I assume it is due to my body seizing up? I still can't dress for a good half hour after getting up. I have had to go back to work (IT consultant travelling the country) as I couldn't stay off any longer. Anyway...I do feel like this pain is getting worse...I had got past the getting out of bed in agony stage....so I am worried that my infection is coming back.....or that this is it...that this is the pain I have for life.
Has this happened to anyone else? I am massively interested to hear from other people so I can see if this is normal as the nurses are not helpful at all.
Oh and I walk at least 3 miles a day. Sometimes more.
Any help would be massively appreciated!
Thanks in advance
