Pain medication hypocrisy

I have been on pain meds for the last 7 months now ( Vicodi/percoset). After the speeches, lectures, hesitancy about giving narcotic prescriptions I have some things that I do not understand and make no sense.

The narcotics I am taking have very few side effects. Sure if I take a whole bunch at once I may get a final side effect but overall they seem fairly safe. Narcotics they discourage.

On the other hand the doctors seem to have no second thoughts prescribing non narcotic drugs with very serious side effects and sometimes even death associated with them.

I cringe when I look up some of the side effects on the drugs I have been prescibed. The newer ones are even worse when you factor in the unknown long term side effects.

Who cares if your kidneys or liver fail just don't take those narcotics.

I don't get it...

  • Remember this the next time you hear some idiot drug addict claim that they are hurting no one but themselves.

Doctors have become hostile toward these meds because of the addicts who abuse them. There is no other reason for this refusal to treat people who suffer with serious pain.

By the way, most of those other drugs are addictive. they cause severe withdrawal when stopped. I went to a PM who used anything EXCEPT narcotics to relieve pain. When I had to be hospitalized with a serious illness the hospital staff refused to give me the meds and I went thru horrific withdrawal. Needless to say, I found a new PM. Now I take two meds and an OTC and have better quality of life and less pain.
  • =( It's a sad sad world.

Innocent until proven guilty? Sure, sure.

In dire need of pain control to live a normal life? PROVE IT!

  • Now that I am in these chronic pain shoes it is really terrible to see how doctors treat patients, especially when everything is legit x-rays,MRIS and heck even multiple surgeries!!!

    things need to change!!!
