I had the exact same problems as you and yes the surgeon and all the Dr's brushed me off and made me feel like its all in my head. so now after 5 years and a broken screw later I demanded the surgeon take me seriously and find out what was wrong. so he did a ct scan to see the bone and found out that it never fused at all. which would explain the lump feeling in my throat and the other symptoms I was having. Thay did xrays and mri's in the past so many Times and always said it looked good. I just don't understand if ct scan can show the bones better why thay wouldn't have done it after the surgery to see if it fused properly so I wouldn't have to go through this for 5 years. I can't say this would be the same for you but it might be worth checking out.
  • Hi,
Your surgeon is only going to deal with what he did surgery on. Your PCM would be the one to ask about your throat. Also, most of the time, once the surgery is over with you're considered to be recovered, or "fixed." Surgeons generally don't believe that you're still in a lot of pain post-recovery, because they believed they fixed you. feeling all "tingly" is normal its your nerves trying to recover. After my first surgery I was fine for about 6 months. At about the 6th month mark all hell broke loose and all the pain came back ten-fold. I went back to the neurosurgeon and said "something's not right I shouldn't be in this much pain." His response was "oh you're fine, everything seems to be normal." Surgeons generally think once they operate on you everything will be perfect and you shouldn't have any more pain. I went to see an orthopedic
Spine surgeon who ordered an MRI come to find out I wasn't fine. The same disc re-herniated, with degeneration, and my spine is slipping forward I think it's called spondelythesis I also have two synovial cysts.
  • I also have a lump in my throat. It is visisble to everyone and it has grown. I know we all have different situations but my family doctor looked at mine today and said it looks as though I busted an inside stich and that it is blood build up. If it does not get better she will order an x-ray. It appears there are several possibilities, but I would see your primary doctor. Good luck.
