Been reading online and this board seems most educated. ..want to get better understanding of tests,my next ortho appt is 3 weeks away still. I first went to ortho because I have limited use of my left arm, neck is also limited, neck spasm.went for the shots in my neck then several epidural shots, physical therapy, meds... then with all the xrays n mri's they found I was born with extra vertebrae and it was the cause of my leg and back pain, I have just been living with it. DDD lotttts of arthritis and one disc was mangled, he said surprised I walked into the office...anyhooo, that put all the neck/arm issues on back burner. Now its been almost 6 months after multilevel fusion and a year since I first started going, my neck has gotten bad again. Perhaps because im not taking pain meds lol. Anyhoo..prior the back i had the emg test and it showed bad nerve damage and he wanted to run some more mri and xrays and check the lumbar fusion...so the tests say... degenerative postsurgical change with healing, laminetomy defect at L5... so to me that sounds good....the cervical mri says, .... Impression. . Multilevel DDD w/spondylosis... c2 c3, central disc protrusion and left facet hypertrophy. ..c3 c4, c4 c5, left facet hypertrophy. ...c5-6 normal limits..... c6 c7 spondylotic disc bulge............. so, my questions are... will I ever get use of my left arm again? It feels as its starting in right arm, could I lose range of motion in both? Since its been a year, is it fixable?

  • I recently saw my neurologist for neck pain that is radiating down both shoulders and arms. I have moderate to severe multi level degenerative disc disease which is mostly in my neck. My surgeon wants to do a four level ACDF on my cervical spine. I want to make an informed decision, as this is an extensive surgery with so many levels. Does anyone have any input or has anyone out there had this extensive surgery on their neck with so many levels?

  • I had been suffering with terrible neck, back, shoulder and arm pain for many years. We finally decided to do a 3 level fusion and remove my C5 vertebrae. I had the surgery done last week so it is very soon to tell if it was a complete success but I can tell you that already the numbness and tingling in my right arm has improved greatly.

It is a big surgery but so far I have been able to handle it fairly well. They take great care of you to make sure you are able to control the pain. Right now I am still very exhausted but it seems to get better every day.

Wow, you have a lot going on. You have also been dealing with pain for a long time. I think only a Doc doing emg reading can answer your question about use of your arms and nerve damage. Wishing you pain free and mobile days.

Thank you .... I look forward to my next appointment. .. wonder if this is fixable with meds or is there another surgery ahead. Im a mommy and having the use of my arms would be helpful lol :) I guess they might do another emg. It would be good to find out if any of the nerves have healed or if still damaged. Few weeks till answers :)
  • Has anyone had surgery for c2 c3? Id like to hear your experience :)
