L2-S1 surgery

Here we go again :( or :) depending on perspective!

Previous ALIF L5-S1 in 2011 and SCS in 2013 and all the usual epidurals etc in between.....

Continued nerve pain, burn, ache, shooting, sharp, etc down right side mainly but recently taking over both sides so severely that normal life is almost impossible. Catscan myelogram shows severe blockage due to blown out discs from L2 down and Spurs on the ALIF level. The foramina left and right all levels are impinging the nerves as well.

Neuro and Pain spine guys both agree on cutting away all the discs that are not where they are supposed to be, without fusion, and multilevel foraminotomy both sides along with deburring the L5/S1. They were surprised I'm still walking. They said I need the surgery ASAP. Pain guy finally bumped the Percocet to 10/4x day plus my regimen of Nucynta ER 200/2x day. Finally, I'm validated and he was so very apologetic for not acting on my request for more meds earlier. He was protecting me from my internal addict as I have always been completely honest about my past, but I'm glad he admitted it.

I have a call in to schedule surgery and I finally feel hope again......

Now the obvious questions come to mind; he said 6-8 weeks down but anybody have better results (as in back to driving and desk job part time in maybe two or three weeks?).

  • Glad to see you once again have hope. I understand the feeling, I went in for my 4th surgery on June 11th. I posted all about if you want to read it. It is rather long but tells my whole story and is titled PLIF goes wrong turns out to be a blessing. I can't answer your question about recovery because I too am facing the same thing. Good luck and keep us posted.
