Rod removal after spinal fusion to activate good disk

My case is of spinal fusion from L2-L5 which is about to happen in next six months. In my case my L2-L3 and L4-L5 are bad disks but L3-L4 is perfectly normal.
My surgeon suggested that i need to get it fuse from L2-L5, he will put a single rod leaving my L3-L4 disk untouched. My question is after everything is done and hopefully successful fusion happens, could I get the rod removed so that my L3-L4 can work normally again?. Bcos if I do not get it removed then i guess it will be same as getting three level fusion which will make other disks collapse soon then expected?
I know it depends on my surgeon but if anyone can provide a thought it would be really helpful to convince my doc. Or atleast i will be having a positivity left in me. I am 27 yr old and i need atleast 10 years more :)
