Just want to give some info on how I found relief in my chronic neck/upper back pain. I have been weight lifting my entire life, (currently 31). About two years ago, my thoracic spine started to pop and crack out of nowhere. Over time, I felt a lot of sensitivity in my upper back thoracic area where it used to pop, even just from breathing . I've been in sports and have been injured many times, so I don't think anything of an injury and pain usually just went away. The issue with this upper back pain is that it wouldn't go away and was very discomforting. I noticed during my bench press my right arm was much stronger than left most of my life. The left arm seemed to lag. One of the trainers at the gym noticed this and recommended a wellness center that had both Chiro and PT. Since I had pain/discomfort, I thought I should give it a shot. After weeks of sessions of both Chiro and PT, matters did not improve. At one Chiro session the practitioner had me sit down grabbed my left arm and pulled up. I was in such pain in my neck after this and it wouldn't go away. I went to the gym after and was in so much pain doing a pushing motion. I went back to the wellness center times after and told them I was in more pain now including my neck. I stopped going because I changed jobs, not knowing if it would have changed at the wellness center. I had pain in the left side of my neck even doing a pull up. I literally just dealt with it because I didn't want to get shots, or start taking pain medication.
FYI- I did get an MRI on my cervical and thoracic. I have multiple herniated discs in my cervical and slight disc degeneration in my thoracic.
In my search for relief I tried massaged, more PT (physical therapy), and acupuncture.
I had a colleague of mine recommend a Chiro that he and his wife had went to that worked wonders for them after he heard what my experience was. I didn't think anything would work because of already been through Chiro and PT and I got much worse. I was at a point where the pain couldn't get much worse so I gave the Chiro a try. The Chiro practiced Advanced Biostructural Correction, a different type of spinal manipulation. Though I didn't find relief till about 4 months in, I have felt incredible. I am now back to a non chronic pain free lifestyle. Though there is still popping and cracking but the pain has subsided considerably. I am back to weightlifting and feeling great. If anyone has any questions I can answer please feel free to ask. I wish I found a solution sooner, and I have experienced the chronic pain many of you have been going through. Diet is super important as well.
