I am a 30 year old male which has been suffering from lower back pain for a year and a half now. My problem is I can't sit for more than 10 - 15 minutes as both of my feet get tingles and eventually goes numb. I get a aching pain on the left lower side of my back as well when sitting. I have no problems standing, I can stand all day. I had a MRI done in September 2014 showing a disc herniation (L5/S1).
After trying physios, chiros and injections with no success I saw a few doctors and decided on a discectomy. I am in week 9 post operation and have no relief. I saw my doctor 2 days ago and he explained to me that from what he saw he didn't really see any serious sign of my L5 disc pressing on my nerve so he did not snip it off and instead just shaved a bit of the bone. He did tell me that my disc is very hard compared to other discs ( I don't know if this means anything). I tried to explain to him that when I am laying straight or standing I don't feel any pain or numbness which may explain why when laying flat on my stomach during the operation showed no sign of pressure on the nerve from my disc bulge. I only feel the pain when sitting, therefore I think the bulge only presses the nerve when sitting. My doctor was not too convinced and suggested I get another epidural and see how it goes and possibly another operation but this time snipping off the bulge which he thinks has a very little chance of fixing my problem.
It has been so hard to keep positive as I thought I would be back to normal after the operation. I am not sure if the bulge is my problem anymore. Could there be anything else? I plan on getting married in about 6 - 7 months and my dream is to be able to sit at my wedding.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
