Hello every one in the spiney
Two years ago in a near death collision i suffered intestinal rupture from Blunt abdominal trauma, required surgery imediately, cervical injuries at C 5-6,C 6-7,lower back lnjuries at L5,S1,and right shoulder (rotator cuff).
I had all the indicated tests,EMG,MRIs suggesting ACDF C 5-6,C 6-7 and right shoulder surgeries.
June 21 2013 i had my ACDF and almost 10 weeks later Aug.27 i had rotator cuff surgery and currently 3 weeks post op incisional abdominal hernia.Lately the problem with my lower back worsens to the point where my NS and second opinion spine surgeons agree that surgery is the only option left something i don't want not even to think for now.Recent CT scan (may) shows that my neck isn't fused 100% yet i do have appointment with my Surgeon in 2 weeks to look at the options..
After two years im in constant pain p/t doesn't give any relief currently on opiates,Opana ER 10mg,Oxycodone IR 10mg,Ibuprofen 800mg(even though not fully fused),Zanaflex 4mg,Neurontin 600mg,Valium 5mg,and antidepressant Wellbutrin 100mg.and i also had 3 rounds of epidurals recommended by my PM doctor.
Very painful jurney, very depressed, so many times i qestion if there's anyone up there why i survived that accident if i'm unable to live life? i'm verry private person and don't talk to any one about what is going on inside me not even to my wife and children, they see me suffer and that's enough. This my story wishing a painless day to all.

i have the same questions. After my accident I felt I could beat this.
It's very hard. It's been 18 months for me and it keeps throwing curve balls at. Me.
I don't know when it will stop. I just keep praying.
    God. Bless
  • This is my big questions, where is taking me? When it will stop? For me it looks like i have long way to go.one thing after another besides my injuries from the accident i'm dealing with other things related and unrelated.23days ago i had sergery related to it but in the CT scan looking to locate the pain in the abdomen they also found other unexpected surprises, galldladder with pangreatic calcifications (pangreatitis)and a kidney cyst (?) Any way today they book me to have surgery on July 15 for removing the galldladder and follow up with kidney specialist to see what type cyst is....It's not just raining.....It's pouring!
    Thanks and God Bless

  • Hello, I am Lisa. I had ACDF spinal double fusion C5/C6, C6/C7, with hardware and a cadaver bone 9 1/2 months ago. I still have horrible neck pain, numbness in my face, my neck is tight, my left arm to my fingers are still numb and tingling. Sometimes the intensity is really bad. Three weeks ago, I developed numbness from my knees to my feet in both legs. I am having a spinal MRI tomorrow. I have only had x-rays (3-4) since my surgery. It shows that I have not gotten solid fusion and my surgeon hope by a year I will. I doubt it. I can't think that 2.5 months is going to change as my bones have not filled in with that cadaver bone. I can only wish they used my own bone. It's very depressing. I can relate to what you are saying. I feel like i never had surgery and am getting worse by the day!
  • I'm sorry for what you are going through. Having the same problems i feel your pain.Unfortunately it's very painful jurney.Pain, depression and tears! Still have horrible pain in my neck,my shoulders,my arms, don't feel my fingers and after two years not fused.! I too have titanium plate and screws and cadaver bone.
What was the reason for your ACDF? Are you currently taking pain medications? Any treatment,P/T? Since you having MRI get a second opinion to see what is going on.I wish if i've done that a year ago.hopefully things will take the right turn and it's going to stop somewhere.
wishing you a good luck with your MRI and a day without pain

I injured my neck & left shoulder at work 2 years ago. I had ACDF C4/5. I kept complaining that all of my symptoms were still there. I found a new surgeon who discovered that my neck never fused. So, 9 months later, I had posterior neck surgery.
I do question the ibuprofen that you are taking. My first surgeon wouldn't refill my pain meds after my first surgery. He told me to take ibuprofen. My new surgeon told me to stop taking ibuprofen because it slows the fusion process?
I also just had rotator cuff surgery 3 weeks ago. My recovery is still early with that, but I'm having increased neck pain since the shoulder surgery.
I hope you get some relief & some answers soon.
  • Thanks for replying and i'm sorry for your injuries and what you are going through, l know exactly what it feels like from my own experience, and rotator cuff is a very nasty surgery! You had arthroscopic or open? mine was open and very painful, What scares me to death is the continued issues with my neck. I 'm not ready for another surgery and if i like it
or not this is where I 'm heading, either Ibuprofen or ex smoker or very simple wasn't my own bone, one of them to blame!Unfortunately i spent the last 2 years in pain and depression and i don't see any light in the tunnel.l had 3 surgeries within 3 months after my accident,i'm a month post op from number 4,number 5 schedule for July 15 and i don't know if or when my neck.... life goes on! wishing you quick and painless recovery.
