So back in October 2013 I went in for my second spinal fusion due to. Loss of strength in my Left hand. They extended my C1-C2 fusion up to the occipital because my spinal cord was getting irritated and they believed that my spinal cord contusion was worsening because I had too much ROM. Anyways since that surgery I have been going to OT and I have the most amazing OT who has never given up on me. We have finally gotten my hand to be able to pick small things up and not shake excessively, it used to shake like crazy so now I can make smoother movements. Anyways we are over a year and a half from that surgery and I still have less than 5 lbs grip strength. Well back in October 2014 they had to go back in because of loosening hardware and they extended down to the C3. So now I've gone back to seeing my PT and he said that at the 2 year mark that will be the most strength I can ever expect my hand to get which is frustrating. Does anyone know if this is true? I have contacted my surgeon and am waiting for her response but wanted to see who has experience. Also my PT is releasing me after only 3 visits because he said I have more strength than a person w/o a spinal fusion but that just doesn't sound right. It seems like too short of a time and this is my 3rd surgery so I don't want to have to have another one. I would love to hear your opinions- I'm just frustrated!
