Mild Pain / Pressure in Upper Back

So I'll begin with the fact that I am a bit of a hypochondriac. I don't jump to conclusions with health all the time, but I have a small handful of times in my life. For example when I felt a pretty large lymph node for the first time I was worried it was a tumor. This, however, seems a little bit different.

I am writing this on Friday night, and on Tuesday at some point I began experiencing some sudden back discomfort. Directly to the left of my spine there is "pressure" maybe even mild pain. And there is some discomfort on and off above this area and more than usual neck cracking. The only other symptom, was what I believe were, swollen tonsils. This has mostly subsided, and could be totally unrelated, but it started at the same time so I figured I throw it in here. After searching the web I, of course, quickly became fearful that I have tumors that have caused a vertebrae to collapse. The web says that if a vertebrae is sensitive/painful that it COULD be caused by a collapse. So I have, of course, rubbed the thing constantly, and now it is a little be sore. But there is no significant pain in the vertebrae. I pretty much have no other symptoms. I am a tallish skinny guy that has always had slightly low blood pressure, so my extremities easily get tingly when I stretch or sit weird, so I do not believe I am getting any of that from this problem.

I will see a doctor, because even if I am crazy, it will be much better to have piece of mind than to possibly have my paranoia come true. And when you list a couple of symptoms the internet pretty much comes up with cancer, and only cancer. So what I am hoping to get from you guys is a little reassurance before I see the doctor, because it could be a week or so. I am only 22, and have been perfectly healthy my entire life. I am pretty sure I didn't pull anything because I have been pretty inactive of late, but it is possible. I have sat for long periods of time, and I know that can take a toll on your back.

I know I may sound a bit paranoid, its only been a couple days and the pain is very mild. But when you google SUDDEN back pain it doesn't come up with pretty results.

Thank you in advance!

I don't have any answers for you but I can totally sympathise as am worrying in exactly the same way.

My post below says a very similar thing except my pain/ache is in my mid back.

Like you, I have used Dr Google and have come up with sinister reasons for my pain.

I Think that we both need reassurance and perspective from a doctor

I Hope it all settles down for you :)
  • Hey Tomimo, I read your post and thought it was eerily similar.

Yeah I am very likely just being paranoid, and within a couple days this will be laughable, but once you get reading and thinking too much it gets scary.

The unfortunate thing with the internet is, it cant really qualify pain. So when I touch the vertebrae to see if it is "painful" its hard to tell whether Its just me poking my bone and getting a SMALL reaction, or if this is what they are talking about. I am just thankful that none of the other symptoms have occurred.

Good luck! And I'm sure yours is nothing as well.

I have been having the exact same issues. Except mine got better and then worse. It went from an awkward feeling to a painful annoyance. I can now feel it creeping up periodically throughout the day until about 7 at night when I can't even move my head back and forth without feeling kind of a pulling out of place sensation. Please let me know if you found out what it was and if you got it fixed. I am seeing a chiropractor tomorrow and will let you know if that helps. I am 21 and it started after a 12 hour driving and has persisted for about two months now.
