I was wondering if some of you could help me out with suggestions. I know nothing is a one size fits all (because trust me I've tried most), but perhaps there is something out there I haven't tried!
Abridged version: I injured my neck 7 years ago playing rugby. Symptoms to follow were migraines, eye pain, light sensitivity, anxiety, sometimes dizziness, brain fog in addition to excruciating pain in my neck, around my shoulder and down my arm (right side only). Most docs dismissed as psychological. I got Lyme tests done (even the Igenex) all negative but they tried to treat me anyway with antibiotics and cold laser. No improvement. I go on pain medication (SSRI and Lorazepam) and do physical therapy. This helps enough so that I can go back to school.
About a year later, after a pop in my neck and jaw occurred from turning my head, the dizziness comes back only way worse. I had constant disequilibrium when I walked. Sitting and laying down were fine. But walking seemed like I was walking on a trampoline, the moon, air, or quicksand. It felt like I was always leaning to the left. Strangely alcohol made this feeling go away (I was in college ok). At this point, I went through the whole ENT and vestibular/ eye testing. All negative. No allergies. Blood word is good. I go to a chiropractor for the neck pain and in five weeks- the dizziness is totally gone. The pain is still there, but that I can deal with more. Dizziness=just awful.
The dizziness is gone for five years! Until I reinjure my neck in March 2014. I was doing a headstand and I got up and had full on vertigo and couldn't open my eyes to the florescent lights. I was worried I was having a stroke or a seizure or something.
This is when I start my fight. I learn about biopuncture- definitely helps with muscle pain but i had no relief of my nerve pain or dizziness.
I learn about prolotherapy and barre lieou syndrome. I fit ALL of the characteristics. Ligament damage is evident on my flexion and extension x-rays. I do several rounds of prolo- no improvement. I see several prolo doctors in fact, no improvement.
Then I get on a boat in August - the dizziness gets way worse and my disequilibrium feeling comes back. That dreadful feeling I had before! It is constant and has been since then.
I continue with prolotherapy and upper cervical chiropractic (NUCCA, atlas orthogonal, etc) I see four of these guys and no improvement. I see regular chiropractors- no improvement. I do the DRX9000 machine for discs - no improvement.
I get a discogram done- i have torn discs, which can leak substance P onto the nerves and cause irritation. I get regenerative disc injections to fix them, the discs improve physically but the pain is still there.
I try a TMJ clinic that does manipulation and acupuncture for tmj points - no improvement.
I try facet blocks - very minimal improvement and only temporary.
I am starting to believe that my symptoms must be nerve related, specifically involving the superior cervical ganglion, stellate ganglion, sympathetic nerve ganglion. I'm just wondering, how do I treat this? I am getting a pulsed radio frequency on the 8th of july and I'm hoping that will do something, but right now I'm at a loss and am unsure what to do.
Please let me know if you have any insight, I am at the end up my rope here
I should also add that I've had my adrenals tested and I do take thyroid and adrenal medication.
