Herniated c6-7 neck

I retired early due to a herniated disc c6-7, it happened about 4 years ago, I delivered packages for 32 years and also have bone spurs contributing to this. I tried acupuncture (which helped the most) traction, chiro manipulation, p.t., steroids, stretching every day, etc. My dr told me to take 12 ibuprofens or 8 naproxen's a day, which really hurt my stomach. I now have a less physical job, and the pain meds are only 2 a day. My question, will taking this many pills over the years hurt me, my dr said no that it is just discomfort, and I have never had an mri, just an xray, do you think I should ask for an mri? Thanks

  • Yeah, you need a MRI.
IMO, it's about your quality of life. Do you want to take pills for the rest of your life or do you want to try and fix the issue once and for all? A MRI will provide definite insight to what you're dealing with and what your options are.

    hello everyone

please help me to solve this problem , thank you in advance.

  • that sounds like a lot of meds. Have you tried other meds? As for the long term effects I am willing to deal with them if they help the pain. I was on Vioxx for years until it went off the market and then I started on Celebrex. I have been on it for years. It is a NSAID but I only have to take one a day. And it finally went generic so it's way cheaper. (I also exercise on a regular basis)
  • I would definitely recommend an MRI. My MRI changed so much in 2.5 years along with my symptoms that I now have an artificial disc at C6-7. I'm only 2.5 weeks out from surgery but all my numbness has been gone since surgery.
    C6-C7 Disc Replacement 06/16/2015
    Bulging Disc also at C5-C6
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
  • i plan to start another med , relaxants and calcium and vitamin d , and steroid injections , i also planned to make MRI , but , my doctors neurosurgeons told me dont worry , and if stenosis isn't intense , like situations , is indicated similar madication , and if i have intense narrowing of cervical space , i think i must have strong pain , and other symptoms , like anesthesia , cordination problems , hard weakness , and numbness , in both legs ,
please discribe your symptoms whom are confirmed cervical stenosis ,
i'm scared , need your help.
    thank you in advance
