Lower back back pain and sciatic pain

Hello everyone I'm new here and I desperately need to ask questions or get feedback from anyone that can shed some light on my situation, I've been suffering with back pain for over 8 years, I'm 41 and up until 2 months ago my back pain and sciatic pain has become truly unbearable, last week I had my first epidural injection but I'm in more pain now than before, is this normal and will this go away? I feel numbness for a couple minutes followed by unbearable pain, I can barely walk with a walker and the doctor mentioned that I have spondylolesthesis, in two weeks I have an appointment to see the surgeon, but I guess my cry for help is, is there anything I can do to relieve some of the pain? I take strong pain killers and muscle relaxants but they only help a tiny bit, I have to be in a fetal position all day with a pillow between my legs, my whole leg goes numb my toes go numb, then this horrid pain follows from my lower back to my buttocks all down my leg to the side of my foot, any ideas or recommendations would be a blessing to me, thank you so much for your time

  • Does applying ice help at all? Sometimes, when it's bad I get my doc to phone in a steroid pack for me. That often helps a bit but I have a lot of inflammation.

A pain flare is very common. Usually starts to subside in a week for me. We're all different. The steroids might still kick-in & start to improve things now. Can you hobble around at all? Remaining still for any length of time increases my pain. I know it's hard. Best of luck with the surgeon. I'm sorry :-(

I had the same problem Caudal injection did wonders for me. Ask your doctor. Was in tears when I went to my Dr this morning. Walked out pain free and went to work an hour later. My doctors hands were meant for what he does. He is amazing!! I am so sorry for all the pain you are having.
    God bless, Jamie
