Has anyone changed Dr's during recovery? I now know I made the wrong decision when choosing the Dr I chose for the surgery. I had an ACDF c5/c6 with 2 large clumps of bone spurs. I have only been able to have 2 appointments with the actual Dr. The first was my initial consult and the last one was when he said surgery was the only option. The rest of the appointments (5 of them) have been with his nursing staff. The staff has not listened at all to what I report regarding my severe nerve and muscle pain. I have significant nerve issues that I didn't have prior to surgery. When I get my care summery the concerns I have brought up are not even listed. It only says neck pain. Honestly I don't even have pain in my neck. My anxiety is through the roof mainly because the lack of response to these issues. The nurse prac actually told me that it is a very small % of people that experience pain 3 weeks post opp so it's probably all in my head. At my 3 week appointment they wanted me to stop taking the percocet (thought I was having a reaction, turned out it was from something else) and take either tylenol or tramadol. After taking the tramadol I reacted strange so I contacted the office back and after a bitch fest they called the Dr. After all of this they called in a new nerve med. I thought maybe I was getting somewhere.
Today I got an email from the nurse saying to stop taking all pain meds and to only take the nerve meds. She again said that they really think my pain is from anxiety and not surgery. After that she sent my care summery and again it says neck pain. OMG really!
So if you had to change Dr's how willing or easy was it to find one to take your case on post opp. I already canceled my 6 week appointment this morning. When I did it I thought I would just deal with recovery myself. Well fast forward to afternoon when the pain really surges and I know I can't do this on my own.
