Lidocaine patches

I had the opportunity to try Lidocaine patches. I was totally surprised on how well they worked and has allowed me to be able to cut my pain medication by a 1/3. The only problem is that my insurance company will not pay for them because back muscle pain is not a approved use. I have gone to the drug web site and they state it is only to be used for after shingles pain. We all know that medications have been used for other medical conditions then what the conditional they were originally for. A perfect example is the use of anti-seizure medication for nerve pain. Does anyone have any ideas ( I was not able to find much on this web site other then those one the forum saying they work or not work. To me the real reason I feel they will not approve this is the cost since 30 patches will cost them $250.00. A price I cannot afford. 30 pills of my MS-Contin cost them about $20.00. My doctor has also called them with no help. Any ideas?
