I am to have the RFA procedure done in six places on my facet joint nerves. My doctor said that in addition to burning the nerves there will also be some burning of the soft tissue. He said it can take up to 4 months for me to be pain free and that should last about a year. He said that burning soft tissue is like an open wound. He said it can take up to three weeks for the initial pain of the procedure to go away but it shouldn't be any worse than the pain I am in now. Pain free for a bout a year? Is that from the date of the procedure or the date after 4 months? How bad is the pain after the procedure and how long does this pain last? I had knee excisions severing nerves once and the pain was as bad as my cervical spine surgery years ago. I've been on Vicodin for years and I'm afraid I may be immune to it. Will I need a strong pain medicine? I am totally scared to death. Should I have this done? Is it worth it?
