I had anterior cervical discectomy and fusion 10 months ago to correct two herniated discs that were impinging my spinal cord and making my left hand go numb when riding a mountain bike or road bike. The left hand has resolved, but I'm still finding I have problems with visual auras and a feeling of upper body weakness when I ride.
It seems to depend mostly on a few things - how long it's been since I last rode (three or four days of rest helps), how bumpy the trails are (the bumpier the trails, the more it happens), and how long I ride (as I approach 30 - 60 minutes it really kicks in). I ride with my doctor sometimes and we've talked it over as he's seen the symptoms happen. He's stumped, but helping me work it out.
The other symptom that often occurs is that I get pretty low blood pressure after riding - it can be on the order of 95/55 at first and then it typically gets back to normal over a period of hours.
Anyone have experience with anything like this and have any advice?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
