Smoking before surgery?!

So I have my microdiscetomy surgery tomorrow & I have been advised to quit smoking 24 hours prior to my op. I had my pre op yesterday and the nurse told me that if I want to smoke I can.. And with my nerves all over the place I've had 2 this morning. Now I'm just confused as to when if I should stop? I can't eat from midnight tonight so should I stop then or will I be able to have one in the morning before I go into the hospital? I just think with not being able to eat or drink, I will need one! But I obviously don't want it to interfere with anything!!

Helpppppp :/
