Hi I'm new here and don't know if this has already been discussed. I have been wondering about this for a long time and can't seem to get my current physician on board with testing even though I seem to have quite a number of the symptoms. I wanted to know if anyone else here has had a problem with this? Thanks.

  • Approximately 4 months after my surgery, I began to show symptoms. After a referral to an Endocrinologist, I was diagnosed with Graves Disease. Tests showed hyperthyroidism. I did that RAI treatment six months after my cervical fusion. I'm not sure of the connection - but I'd be interested in hearing others have been effected.
  • Funny after having a polyp removed on my vocal cord in the mid 90's about 4 months later I also was diagnosed with Graves but I had a large goiter and never paid much attention. I'm not in the medical field but I do not think that due to surgery its related but you never know. Back then I only had 2 choices radio active pill or surgery since mine was pretty advanced and could not be controlled with meds. My endo now says they don't destroy anymore. Curious as to what they are doing for you.

I had the radioactive in November 2011. I currently take levothroxi and liothyronine (citomel)

Scheduled for my second ACDF next month..worried if it will throw my body and graves outta whack again. Concerns about lupus which I guess have some antibodies of it showing up...will this new surgery flare it all up?
  • Shay I dont think anything can mess with our past Graves since we had thyroid destroyed. I have only had medication adjusted once and I think had something to do with post menapausal. My endo took me off the generic and put me on snythroid. Just a difference in endos I think. Which levels? Is it the same levels for cervical? I do think I have seen many do overs I hope and pray I never have to do mine ever ever again. Maybe thats why my neuro did posterial although my neck tends to go forward and at one time he mentioned ACDF for stabilization.
