Requesting an MRI post op ?

After surgery for decompression and fusion, under what circumstances, if your x-rays seem to look fine but you still struggle two + years out with symptoms of myelopathy, would you request an MRI if at all?

  • I requested one at 5 months out because although I was getting better in some aspects (I wasn't stumbling, and fumbling objects), I was getting worse in other ways - my spasticity and fatigue, and weirdness with my arms and hands, which I need desperately for my job. A normal-ish follow-up MRI was the final justification for me to take a medical leave from work to try and heal.

  • I appreciate that information. Im clearly worse now then I was after my first surgery. Worse in terms of Trouble walking or balancing
Muscle weakness that sort of thing. Add to that not the changes I though Id have at this stage. Id like an MRI to confirm for any edema or that sort of thing.

    Thanks again.
