Mid-upper back pain for 3 + years with no relief :(

I will try to make this as short as possible. This all started when I was working at a animal hospital lifting dogs into a high tub. I worked as a kennel worker for 5 years. I just thought my back got tight and then went to my local Chiro to get adjusted and it did feel better at first. After a while the adjustments wouldn't last.. The pain got so unbearable I had to quit because I couldn't stand it anymore. I have X-rays , and MRI , cat scan all seems to look fairly normal. My neck is a little straight I was told. I did a lot of research on my own because the doctors didn't seem to really care or be able to help me. I've tried myofacial release which did help a little but wouldn't last. I have gotten a ton of messages. I have tried physical therapy which actually made me worse! Accupuncture .. You name it I tried mostly everything. I'm trying to stay positive but let me tell you it's hard to at the age of 23 and being in pain 24/7. I am recently seeing a new Chiro and he seems to think I'll get better with just adjustments but I'm not so sure about that.. I love to workout and havnt really been able to do much for the past 3 years.. Can't hold a job because I can't sit to long.,, or stand too long. I'm willing to try anything! I would love for some advice!

Is it your primary doctor who ordered your testing and PT? Or a spinal specialist?

My primary tried working with my pain for two years before referring me to pain management doctor.
    Best thing for me!
He did different kinds of testing.
The EMG nerve conduction test was very revealing to doctor, and to me.
It showed issues not seen before and gave doctor a better plan of treatment.

Treatments are trial and try again, but my PM doctor has plans B, C, etc...to treat me and he has kept me out of the ER where I had to go for the uncontrollable pain.

Please keep us posted on how your doing!

It was my primary doctor. I did see a rhemotologist and he did nothing for me. He tried to prescribe some cream that I've already tried and didn't work and I told him that. I'm ready to be back to normal . This journey has been tough!
  • I feel so much for you. I have been in severe thoracic pain for 20 months and have tried every treatment available. Herniated disc t10 and been told by neuro and orthopedic doc they will not operate on this area. Regular stretching and light walking giving me minimal relief. Also take low dose hydrocodone as well as gabapentin for shooting and radiating pain. Be very careful with chiro and water therapy may give you some help. I am in tears every day. Tonight I read an old post by a man who felt like ending his life. I was insulted by a poster who bragged that he worked but yet takes 40 mg oxy 4x a day and lollipops as well. Pray you don't take that route. People on that level of meds have no business even being on the streets and especially driving. There are many nice people on this site and you will find relief knowing there are others who suffer. Take care!
