I have had to stop taking Lyrica due to bruising that is pretty significant. Within about a week of starting to take Lyrica at 75mg twice a day, I developed bruises all over my legs and some on my arms. Some were quite large and looked very nasty.
The saddest part is that this is the only drug so far that has had a decent impact on my pain levels outside of opiates. It was my last hope.
Gabapentin (neurontin) I had tried at 1200mg three times a day, it worked very minimally and the memory loss FAR outweighed the pain relief. I felt like a mindless person taking this stuff. I couldn't remember doing things that I had done 5 minutes earlier.
Now I am just wondering if anyone else has dealt with the bruising, and if your doctor gave you the ok to continue using it. I have only stopped taking it by doctor order, I would deal with the bruising if it was left up to me.
Next part: opiates, these are by far the most effective things in treating my pain. Simple norco's or vicodin is generally enough for about 2 - 3 hours at a time. The problem is that every single doctor refuses to prescribe these for any length of time. Meaning I have them for a week or two a year, maybe a month if I am lucky. This may be due to my age (29). I do not know, I am however very frustrated.
The doctors will treat all of my other symptoms: sleep problems, depression, etc, but not the root cause: pain.
What on earth do I have to do to get the doctors to work with me? Do I need to start yelling? I am at my wits end here. I gave up dealing with doctors for 5 years and only went back after trashing my back recently again. I lived my life doing nothing other than sitting and laying down for the past ~6 years, I can't do that anymore. I need to do things I enjoy, that means higher pain levels which in turn means I need to treat that pain.
I can't explain my level of frustration with the pain doctors. The first year I did everything they wanted me to, I tried everything they wanted and spent a ton of money of injections, and other things. Nothing worked besides opiates, and since I had such a bad experience with gabapentin, I had not tried Lyrica...
I can say Lyrica worked FAR better for me than gabapentin, so if you are out there reading this and have not tried Lyrica, it might be worth it. The down side is that it is extremely expensive and some insurance companies may not cover it.
Anyway, I hope you guys out there have some ideas for me!
TL;DR: did you have bruising from Lyrica, can I still take it even with the bruising? Opiates, why won't doctors work with me after everything else has failed. I can't live the sedentary lifestyle, I need to be able to treat my pain!
