I'm 12 days post-op from having a fusion done on L4/L5 and L5/S1 due to degenerative disk disease. I have my 2 week post-op appointment scheduled in two days, but thought I would post my concerns incase anyone else has had a similar experience.
So far, recovery seems to be going well. I am walking and using the stairs, since I live in a townhouse. I have stopped taking my meds that I was prescribed after surgery (Oxycodone and Flexaril) a few days ago. I have noticed two things though after surgery, hopefully someone will have some insight on.
1. Anyone experience hot flashes after surgery? These are ridiculous and awful. I am 35 so I am not near the menopause age, my periods are normal. Besides the DDD, i had no prior medical history. If you have experienced hot flashes after surgery, were they temporary? How long did they last? Any suggestions for coping with these?
2. Immediately after surgery I noticed that my right leg felt numb. I noticed this mainly in my calf area and right foot. I mentioned this to my doctor following surgery, they said that this could be a possible side effect. To this day, the numb sensation still continues. It feels as if my foot is asleep. When I press on this area, I notice a decrease in sensation, especially when compared to my left leg. Anyone else experience this?
