Hello. To introduce myself, I'm John. I'm a 51yo man, 5'10", 185, with a background in weightlifting. I have spondylolisthesis at L5-S1, diagnosed 6 years ago. I have total numbness and tingling on my entire left leg/foot when standing or walking; continous hip pain from the nerve, tightness/spasms in my low back. I've had epidural cortisone, pain meds and muscle relaxers for a few years before coming to surgery. I'm lucky to have found two Neurosurgeons in New York to preform a PLIF (only posterior) scheduled for November 11, 2015. I intend to join the November Surgery Buddy group when it becomes open. I've read many of the posts here and they've been very helpful. John

  • My surgery couldn't have gone better! Now I have to keep myself from turning cartwheels in the street. This surgery was the best thing I've ever done for myself. Not one person on this board responded to my posts, but I wish you all the best with your surgeries all the same. JOHN

I'm sorry the same happened to me no comments. I thought it was maybe because I came from UK. I am really pleased for you that the surgery went well. I was 59 when I had my op in late April same as you. Although I am almost 100% pain free I do have problems with weakness and balance and night burning in one foot sometimes both. I do think by reading other posts your outcome is down to the surgeons skill. I am so pleased that I held out for my surgeon of choice and not the one the NHS in UK wanted me to use to cut waiting times. [edit] Wishing you the very best for a continuing recovery.
  • I am going in next week for L5 S1 fusion. I hope to say the same thing...
