Swimming after microdiscectomy?

Hey all I had a microdescectomy about 2 weeks ago for a herniated L5-S1 disc causing intense sciatica pain down my right leg. Since the surgery I've been doing pretty great. I still have some leg pain due to the damaged nerve needing time to heal but I am able to walk around as long as I need to without it causing me any additional pain.

I was wondering how long it will take for the incision to heal enough to swim in an ocean or pool? My Dr. just keeps saying not to submerge in water but won't give me a time frame of how long. Would I be able to swim 3 weeks post op? What if I covered it with a waterproof dressing like the Nexcare Tegaderm Waterproof Dressing? Anything would be helpful!

that there are no medical professionals on this forum side of the site, therefore, no one is qualified in providing medical advice.

How long will it take for the incision to heal? There are so many variables in that question that makes it almost impossible to give an answer.
Everyone heals at a different rate, plus what was the starting point?

Before you go ahead and start swimming, get the approval from your doctor. They are the ones that can really answer your question.
