Recovery from XLIF L4-5

edited 09/03/2015 - 2:57 PM in Recovering from Surgery
As of today I am 5 weeks post surgery. I have had 2 back surgeries now. My first was a decompression L5-S1. In 2008 (SC) and 2015 (NC), the decompression was amazing. The pressure in my legs was all gone. I took HGH to assist in the recovery. I was up and moving within a couple of days. Pain in my feet, that's my only pain memory.
Fast forward about a year started having pain in my glutes and right hamstring. I waited from July 2009 until July 2015 to address it. A lot going on in life and the world was at war.
So back to today. I have lost 52 pounds from not working out. Bonus for some, a lot of hard work down the drain for me. I am 6 ft natural weight about 175. Was able to get to 236. Then... the back finally gave.
As I stated before I am 5 weeks post XLIF. I have 0 pain from a 50 prior to surgery. Not a fan of pain meds so when I was released I wasn't taken the muscle relaxers, pain meds or laxatives. Well needless to say I woke up in the middle of the night with the worst leg pain in my calves and glutes than what I can type. So I took the meds for about 1 week. Now to only muscle relaxer at night before bed. Week 4 into 5 stopped the relaxer only to be awoken with such pain.
So I am walking about 3.5 miles a day. Eating regularly, still a lot of right calf pain. But not serious pain like before. I have a follow up in 2 weeks and an X-ray/CT prior to appointment. We will see. Happy to not be in that pain as before.
