Postoperative Care for Lumbar Microdiscectomy Surgery

  • I didn't have your exact surgery but I can tell you sometimes it takes time for everything to settle down. My doctor told me to stay ahead of the pain by taking pain medication on a regular schedule whether I needed it or not. Also, if your doctor agrees, ice might help. I always numb the pain with ice when I can.

  • I have just had L4/L5 disctomectomy and I left day 3. It was sore, I was on endone, panadol, and lyrcia. I was told the same thing to stay ahead of the pain until week 3. It has definitely got easier and I found after the first 1-2wks the pain was manageable.
    Good luck
