Ok ladies and gents, my back is hurting far more than usual the last 2-3 days, it is extreme pain! The only thing I did was wash my bedding and re-make my be after, so I assume I threw it out doing the bedding while I was bending etc...
What I am looking for is input from those of you that have done thoracic surgery. Likely I will have T7-T8 fused first.
What was your recovery time? How soon after were you able to work?
I am 29, almost 30 years old. I need to have 4 discs fused T5-T8, possibly more later on. I have put these surgery's off for 6 years and haven't even seen the spine surgeon during those past 6 years. I have been getting by doing as little as possible and with occasional pain meds etc. Earlier this year in June, I threw my back out playing volleyball. Since that time it has not fully recovered and I think I finally broke it to the point I need surgery.
Back then the surgeon said he would do 2 discs at a time focusing on T7-T8 since T8 triggered the most pain during discography. My pain today is as bad or worse than what it was during the discography test on T8, it is the same shooting pain so I am certain it is that disc.
I do plan on having a stand up MRI which the spine surgeon recommended 6 years ago.
My pain is too bad to manage at the moment, I doubt as if morphine would have much effect. I literally had to crawl out of bed this morning and then crawl to get my lyrica and lay on the ground for ~30 minutes waiting for it to work, then I could stand but still in extreme pain. I am barely functional. Needless to say I will be putting that medicine on my night stand tonight so I can take it and then try to get out of bed.
