i'm vegan and another patient in the waiting room at my pain doctor today said that you have to eat

is that true? i have been getting protein from raw vegan sources like pea protein and other things like spirulini and crap...i don't even know
what all is in raw meal my protein shake that has forty five super foods....

i don't think i could eat meat if i tried... it has been 16 years and besides my aversion to it......i don't think i make the digestive enzymes anymore for it

do you really have to eat meat in order for a fusion to work?

  • i called my doctor's assitant......and while talking to him the other assistant went online to the people who made my device and it said
that eating a lot of protein is very important and eating fish, chicken, turkey, and red meat were particularly important...... but it did say you could
eat dairy and eggs.. and as a vegetarian i did eat those... i have lost a lot of weight since then though and i find it upsetting to know that i have to eat those things to let my fusion heal.... i find it very very upsetting.......

I haven't eaten meat in over 20 years. I've never heard that you need to eat meat to fuse?
My first neck surgery didn't fuse? I've always blamed it on my first surgeon not giving me pain meds after my surgery. He told me to take ibuprofen? I came to find out that ibuprofen can slow the fusion process?
I had a second surgery & I did fuse from that one.
Talk to your doctor & tell them how you are getting your protein with protein powder & dairy & eggs. Ask him if that is enough protein for you?

I haven't even been eating dairy and eggs. I have to start. No wonder I am in so much pain.

Its not about dairy and eggs. Its a complex system to make sure you body has the things it needs.
You may have eaten 100 eggs a day, not sure if that is going to change your pain.

Remember, there is so much to deal with about pain. You mention you mop and do a bunch of other things, hence a good reason for some of your pain. I am not saying if you didnt do those things that you wouldn't have pain, but by doing those extra things you are just inviting more pain.
  • The difference is amazing.

I'm happy to hear that your pain has decreased & you are taking less pain medication.
  • It is been my understanding that you need to eat protein but I'm still on a soft food diet and really I'm not getting that much protein at all. And my doctor said there have been no verifiable test studies regarding the ibuprofen. He told me I can go ahead and use ibuprofen if I need it.

It turns out at my six week check up I have already started to fuse. Go figure.

I am curious, when you last saw the doctor were you already fusing?
C4-C5 ACDF surgery with plating August 28.
cord compression due to disc-osteophyte complex
  • they have yet to do any x-rays or CT scans after this surgery to see whether i am fusing or not and i am......10? weeks out? i think?

said to wait til about 6 months out.........

    i'd like to know sooner......

hope your fusion continues to go well.........
