I am new to this site so I will tell you all a little about me, I am almost 24 years old and I am currently awaiting my fourth cervical spine surgery, all done in the past two years.
My first surgery I had done due to a 4wd accident when I was 16 and that was 24th October 2013, I had a C5/6 discectomy due to a bulging disc pressing on a nerve, three weeks later I felt the disc burst again and ended up having a fusion surgery preformed on the 19th December 2013.
2014 was a very painful year but I kept thinking it was because the fusion was still taking place, fast forward to January this year and I am in hospital for severe neck pain, my surgeon does some scans and says there's nothing he can do and sends me to a pain specialist.
Luckily I sought a second opinion, the surgeon spent a fair amount of time staring at my scans saying "I've never seen a fusion done like this" (I had a cage and two screws put in, but the screws were put on the inside of the bone going up on a vertical angle) he also said that the fusion hadn't taken place until some time after it was done so the screws had carved out bits of my bone (the previous surgeon would have known this if he had done the routine follow up scan). Although He still wasn't sure if it had fused and had to ask his peers their opinion (because of where the screws were they disrupted the view). All of this led to the damaged disc below becoming more damaged and I had to have the C6/7 disc replaced in March this year.
I went for my three month follow up ROM scan and appointment six weeks ago and although the surgery he had performed looks great it turns out that the fusion hadn't fused and had a ROM from .6mm to 1.7mm, the screws have essentially fallen into the cage as well. The only positive is that the spine is stable! So my surgeon starts talking about the surgery I will need to replace and re-fuse the joint, he told me to see how I go over the next few months and stay in contact.
A week and a half after I saw my surgeon I ended up in hospital in severe pain and I am now on a whole bunch of pain meds and anti inflammatory's. My appointment is on Wednesday (four days) but even as I sit here and type I am in so much pain, I am trying to study but it is so hard... at this point I am considering going to the hospital
I feel so alone in all of this, as I have never heard a story similar to mine
