After reading so many posts before my surgery, I thought I owed this Forum my result thus far. I am 7 weeks post L-2-L-5 Lumbar Fusion ( with hardware and bone graft) and a decompression on both sides for stenosis. I am happy to say ALL my terrible leg nerve pain is gone (was gone day after surgery) and I can stand up straight and walk! I have a way to go with PT starting in Jan., For now it is just walking, walking and more walking and easy upper body exercise.
But just being able to walk without pain is a great improvement for me and makes me happy! By the way I was in hospital for just 3 days, came home and had Home Care for 3 weeks. I am also off pain meds 3 weeks now (they were more a problem than the operation!).
I was very fearful of having this surgery after reading so many negative posts and it leads me to wonder about the Surgeons. I was very lucky to live near New York City, and after doing lots of research found a great Spine Surgeon at a specialty Hospital there. I realize not everyone can do that but I do believe the surgeon & hospital makes a big difference. Many ask if it should be a neurosurgeon or a Spine surgeon....at this hospital BOTH are present....the spine surgeon to do the operation and the neuro to look on & guide him with results from a myleogram. So from all this I learned....check out the surgeon & hospital thoroughly and try to find one of the Best your Insurance will cover.
