Hello, My name is Sheree. I'm almost 36 (Turning 36 on 8/12). In 2003 I was in a car accident. Within a month of the accident I had emergency back surgery - laminectomy/discectomy at the L5-S1 level. Fast Forward 5 years, two kids via c-section, and a gastric bypass later, my back has just been getting worse. The doctors have all been saying it's just a couple of bulging discs. That's all, it shouldn't hurt. But they couldn't explain the numbness in my right leg, the pain in the hips and my right leg, the tingling. I finally got to an orthopedic surgeon who sent me for a discogram (dang.. that HURT) and a myleogram. The results showed that I had fractures, tears in the discs and that a fusion would be the next step.

I finally got an answer. Finally, someone listened. I'm so scared. I have two kids, 1 and 4, and I want to move and I can't right now. As my boss said.. I want to be with my kids and then one day, bounce my grand kids on my knee. Right now, I can't barely feel my feet.

Ok.. long post.. sorry... Anyways.. that's me.. I plan to visit often.. and ask questions as I get closer. I'm waiting for the date now as the surgeon is contacting other specialists to work with him in the operating room as I'm a complicated case with all the surgeries I've had...

  • to hear of all that you have been through. Welcome to SH and hopefully you will gain the confidence that you need for the surgery by talking to other members that have gone through the same. Good luck and please keep us posted.
  • Scanfie,
You have come to the right place for help and support. I had a 360 L5-S1 fusion about 9 weeks ago. I won't lie...recovery is not easy, but at this point I think it was worth it.

  • Welcome to spine-health.....
  • Boy so sorry to hear all that you have been through. So glad to hear that you have gotten some answers though and are on your way to fixing your back. You definitely will find lots of answer to your questions here on SpineHealth. Just keep up the good work in researching and keep us posted as you get closer to your surgery date.

Welcome and Best of luck, Pebbles
  • I had a 360 spinal fusion revision L5S1 level with titanium hardware in Nov 2007. Recovery is very slow for me but everyone heals differently. I hope all goes well for you. Just remember to listen to your doctor and to your body and keep in mind that you will heal at the pace that is right for you. Good luck! :)
