How to work with chronic pain after 2 back surgeries

I have had two microdiscectomy surgeries and was told recently that the Drs can no longer help me. So they are sending me to pain management. I have a desk job and I am struggling to work. Anyone else have suggestions?

  • I had a discetamy and a year later got a fusion because the nerve pain in left and foot was so bad for months. The fusion cleared up a lot of the problems with in weeks. I am 6 weeks out and still have alot of nerve problems from swelling feeling to hardening feeling to burning at times. Nerves are so sensitive and take a very long time to heal. Besides that if your disc are much smaller now after microsdiscetamy you may need a fusion due to the space getting small. WHAT KIND OF PAIN DO YOU HAVE?
  • I get up for regular walks outside. I go at 10, noon, and 3 o'clock. I wear my TENS unit and sometimes have to turn it up really high. I bring along Lyrica, which I take to help with nerve pain in my arms, hands, and legs. I also have a lumbar support I bought from Amazon that seems to work well.

I wish I had a few other tricks for dealing with the pain. A lot of days I feel so exhausted from fighting with pain during the workday. Sitting definitely exacerbates spine-related pain.
  • I really feel for you. I have a desk job also. Can you stand up at your desk without drawing too much attention? I find setting a timer/goal for 15min helpful and I alternate between sitting and standing. If you can tilt your screen upwards, it is easier to work. Best wishes.
  • I forgot to say, I find heat packs really helpful but I've heard some people say cold works well too.
