Hi everybody, I'm new here!.. I hope I am posting this in the right area...
I need some advice on how to come to terms with and accept my needing a spinal fusion...
Here's my story:
I injured my back a year ago (Nov 2014) and have had every test and procedure done..
PT made my pain and range of motion worse, MRI showed a herniated disc at L5-S1, and EMG showed no nerve damage..
My Ortho sent me for 2 spinal epidurals, which neither of them helped.. I was referred to a Neurosurgeon who recommended a discogram... I had that done 3 weeks ago.. The CT scan afterwards showed that my L5-S1 disc is completely compressed and shows absolutely no support at that level..
I saw my Neuro a few days ago, who said that I'm now ready for a spinal fusion..
I'm 30y/o, no kids yet, and completely terrified!.. While I would love to be completely pain-free, the NS said that's not possible even with a fusion... Right now, they're trying to rid me of sciatica pain but can only promise a 50% improvement, if that, of my back pain..
Have any of you had a fusion done? If so, what's the recovery like?...
I know the nervous anxiety beforehand is normal but I'm terrified of the outcome!.. Can someone please tell me their story?
I need to at least calm myself down!
