Hi, I had acute pain in my back in September and was off of work as a prison officer for 3 weeks, I was sent for an MRI and my doctor told me i had two bulging discs, L4L5 and L5S1. The pain reduced over a few weeks but i was referred to the MSK as it was the second episode. They told me that I had a piece of disc that had broken off of the main part and had gone up into my spinal canal and got stuck hence why i still get shooting pains in my leg and back. They may operate on me to remove it depending on what the surgeon says when my appointment letter arrives. But should I still be working? In a potentially dangerous environment? My employer and doctor thinks its up to me. I still get pains although i have learnt to live with them now. Is the surgery safe and simple and could I make a complete recovery? Any info would be great.
