Finally a 2nd Opinion

Dr Encr. 10/30/15 neurology
Wast of everyone's time......

1 The first thing he asked me was, "what's the status of the Baclofen Pump" He read mention of it while checking my file. I told him that story.

(4th Dr. Recommending & or asking why I have not started pain pump trail)?????
Does any one have a Theory's ?
See previous post for detailed history and symptoms.
I finally asked for a patient advocate today .

2 He said, so your here for 2nd opinion? On what? The Botox? I spent the last 30 min. read ing some of your file .
That was nice too hear The PT never did before working in me just following orders from PM

3 We showed him videos of brachial Plexus pain.

4 He said it looks like they have already given you most of the pain medications we would try here? I said I'm not here for medication s I'm here for help!

5 He did a physical exam reflexes needle test on my numb fingers and observed me walking with my cane.

6 He asked if I would like to be sent to a carpal tunnel study. Without raising my voice I said, "why not an EMG test to see if I have a pinched nerve causing nerve problems? " besides the upper chest and first rib pain are not carpel tunnel....more likely it's a pinched nerve in my neck?

7 He said tracing a pain source is hard to do, you should really work with the folks at pain management? It old him ( they speaking about the PT that started this new symptom) haven't answer my last emails from a month ago. The Dr. said to me well, "you have to stay on them."

8 He said proof of a pinched nerve must first be confirmed with an MRI not EMG by itself and I'm sure nothing has changed since your last MRI a few months back.
I pointed to my un-functioning left arm and hand? All this happened since the last MRI!!!!

( third Dr. To discourage an ENG? Does anyone have a theory about that)
See previous post for detailed history and symptoms.

9 I asked him to do a Pressure Point Test so we could put the Fibromyalgia rumor to bed?
He said he did not know where the Pressure Points Were? that's something A Rehumaioltgest would do. They also do EMG testin.
Hmmm, I said how about sending me for a blood work up since Rehumaioltgest will need that and I guess that's the next specialist I'll try to get help from. Of course he don't know what blood test they would want?

PS My Pain Phicoligest discouraged me from going to a Rhumatoligst if I'm looking for Fibro related testing?? Any Theory's on that one?

10 Finally to shut me up and send me on way, he agreed to pre-schedule me for MRI at my convince #27 in the past 3 years...
Should have. Results next week

  • MRI did not reveal significant changes. The Brachial Plexus pains that serf aced after PT in August had to come from somewhere? That nerve pain is strong!

I understood how you felt and could tell you were having difficulties.
It wasn't me saying that, it was the member's post. I was just posting a link to them with the Spine-health welcome. I have edited the post above so hope it is now clearer to see my added message to 'pained'.

Brachial plexus issues are very hard to diagnose and can be related to thoracic outlet syndrome which can be very hard also and has a vascular and neurological type. Many Major League Baseball players have had brachial plexus injuries from the stress of pitching and often causes " dead arm " feeling.
Sadly brachial plexus injuries often do have secondary fibromyalgia like symptoms, but it's not fibromyalgia its nerve issues.
When they suspected brachial plexus/thoracic outlet issues with me the teaching hospital wanted a mylogram outside the MRI to rule out, my path went a different route but I often get Drs who suspect I also have damage to my right arm brachial plexus and its very hard with nerve damage to differentiate but the lack of blood flow and ice cold to touch leads some doctors to think thoracic outlet syndrome , but since I have same issues in foot that cannot be blamed on thoracic outlet they move on back to spinal cord injury.
From what I have been told EMG does not always catch the thoracic outlet or brachial plexus stuff.
This is just my experience from Drs and reading about it and speaking to others with it
Do your due dilegence, trust you know your body and question everything if it does not fit. Advocate for yourself and you will be suprised what will be revealed trusting your body and instinct.
