Don't know how much more I can take this pain

Hi Everyone.
Hope you all had a very nice New Year's Day. I am in terrible pain and agony.

First some history. I was diagnosed with herniated disks at the L4-L5 and L4-S1 levels. I also have some arthritis, diabetic neuropothy, chronic pain condition etc. This first started in 2008. I am now on several pain medications which include Cymbalta, Tylenol, Norco (Hydrocodone/APAP), Tramadol, Lyrica and Baclofin. I have a great PCP who is trying all he can to control the pain. But this pain is relentless.

I feel like the pain meds are helping to REDUCE the pain but like most of us it doesn't take the pain away fully. I feel some sciatic pain, a little back pain BUT the real killer is it feels like someone is squeezing and twisting my ankle and foot. IT is such awful pain and gets worse when I walk on it.

Sometimes I wonder if i also have Firbromyalgia. I get pains everywhere throughout my body. I am a male in my late 30s. I am on a large regigimen of medications. Diabetes meds, insuline, pain meds, and so forth. I jUST dont know what to do anymore. It feels like if the left side stops hurting, the right side starts....There are sometimes when I am pain free but usually just twenty minutes here and there.

I am begging for help, advice, anything. Thank you in advance and sorry for any typos just not in the mood to fix them. Thank you ! happy NY!
Bipolar d/o, ocd, ptsd, bpd, 2 herniated disk, diabetes on insulin, Htn, high lipids, neuropothy.
Meds: klonipin, norco/vicodin, lyrica, psych meds, etc. Late 30s male.

    Did you have surgery ?
L5S1..2 microdisectomies in 30 days maybe one more on the agenda. 4 bulged discs and one of them loves my spinal canal X2 :/ and a compression fracture . And now scar tissue wrapped around the nerve causing horrible neuropathy all over again.   VICIOUS CIRCLE :(
  • Nothing is going to eliminate all or even most of the pain when you are talking about chronic pain. In the world of pain management, a good result is a reduction of about 50% of UNMEDICATED pain levels.
Given that you have diabetes, neuropathy is part of the condition and may be related to the foot and ankle pain. Do you see an endocrinologist for the ongoing management of your diabetes? If not, you may want to consider that.
It's unusual to be on two different medications used to treat nerve pain-Cymbalta and Lyrica at the same time. It might be worthwhile to consult with a real pain management doctor, who can regulate your meds fir chronic pain, and neuropathy and also offer you further pain management treatment options working with your endocrinologist, rather than having your primary attempting to treat several conditions without the expertise that the specialists in their fields can offer.

  • I wish I had the answer. I am in the same boat as you. It sucks and I Am so sorry you are having this life too. Its not fair that we lost our lives to pain and suffering. That is not a life it is coping with a dark passenger. That passenger ( pain) that reminds you every second you hurt. You can't focus on anything else but the dark passenger. IDK thats how I see it. And its not right and if I had the magic answer I would help you.
